Hammers and Pianos

Using a hammer is a fairly discrete process. You’re banging something or you’re not.

A piano is also a fairly discrete thing. Except there are 88 things to bang on (plus the pedals) and you have the option of banging on them singly or in groups.

The thing about hammers and pianos is that each of them is really easy to use poorly and really difficult to use well. And the thing about using them well is that, after a certain point, no-one can teach you how to be better at using them despite there obviously being a long way to go in your mastery of said piano or hammer.

This has been episode #67281a of Potentially Leaky Metaphors. That is all.
