Culturally-specific filing practices

Adam Greenfield recently posted about his GTD set-up (which reminds me that I’ve promised a similar thing to Ricky but haven’t done it yet.

In the comments, Kazys Varnelis wrote that he doesn’t like the canonical GTD file-folders and prefers “European Style” lever-arch binders for filing. Varnelis linked to site that specialises in these folders and associated paraphenalia. The “starter kit” of five folders and a two-hole punch (and some other bits and bobs) is USD$59.00.

Gasp.

For Antipodean readers, these are the same style of binders that are $2 each at KMart.

On the other hand, I’m still looking for 3×5 index cards that are within an order of magnitude as cheap as Merlin says he gets his for.

I was just looking at 1500 3 x 5 index cards for $3.00 at the local store and decided I couldn’t bring myself to buy them since I only needed 200 for a task and new I would never use any of the others.

And, having to fly to Ireland next week to do some teaching, I looked up the price of a pack of Leitz. Nothing in Ireland, but a 10 pack seems to average a cool £45 on UK amazon and another site. Now I’m pretty ignorant of the real prices of such items in Europe, let alone Australia, and no doubt they are cheaper where they are native, but your K-Marts carry Leitz binders? What else do they have? Or by same style, do you mean, some trashy old binder that just happens to have 2 posts instead of 3? Please, no.
